An earthquake shook the grounds 120 kilometers west of Srinagar, India on April 24 at 3 p.m., causing the entire Southeast Asian region to feel the effects. The epicenter was just west of Srinagar and the earthquake was measured at an 8.5 magnitude.

According to Indian officials, at least 300,000 people died in the earthquake. Aftermath of the quake is still shaking the whole region as India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and China are feeling the effects of the quake.

People in the Tibet region were quoted in saying that on April 24 they felt a small vibration and dishes began to shake. It is feared that throughout parts of India and Pakistan, homes have been destroyed and buildings collapsed. Highway systems in and out of cities as well as going into Islamabad are shattered and it is unsure when these will be restored.

This BBC image of an Indian earthquake in 2005 shows the effects of that quake. A recent earthquake in India killed at least 300,000 people and left the country reeling in the aftermath.

The Kashmir region is also facing disasters and the people are in need of immediate aid. It is unsure how many more people have died from the earthquake but survivors are few and far between. Coroners have found mysterious cases of people dying not from the rubble in the region but from acute radiation sickness. They seem to be occurring on a trail across the Pakistani border. This poses a serious problem for the Pakistani people and Indian population. The death toll continues to rise in Pakistan and India for now.
